COURSE FOCUS

This program is designed for individuals seeking to enhance communication, productivity, commitment, and performance within their organizations. The emphasis is on developing leadership skills, both at the individual level and within a team context by interacting with horses and having the time to explore, reflect, and enjoy a truly unique and transformative experience.

 

ABOUT FACILITATOR

Susanna Massie Thomas, president of The He(a)rd Leader, LLC, is a certified iPEC (Institute of Professional Excellence in Coaching) Leadership and Personal Development coach who is passionate about helping people to become he(a)rd leaders of their professional and personal lives. She brings a wealth of executive experience from both the corporate Fortune 500 world as well as the nonprofit sector. Her diverse background showcases a dynamic career marked by strategic thinking and innovative leadership. As the former Executive Director of the Marker’s Mark Secretariat Center for thirteen years, Susanna was honored with the prestigious title of Kentucky Colonel for her outstanding contributions to the Thoroughbred industry. With a proven track record as a professional and a consultant for developing businesses and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, Susanna has consistently shown her expertise in fostering growth and driving success. She played a key role as an appointee to Governor Patton’s Smart Growth Task Force, contributing to the Commonwealth’s forward-thinking initiatives. She also helped draft three pieces of legislation, two of which were passed. Susanna is not only a seasoned professional but also a published author and journalist with over forty years of experience. Having served as an editor for two magazines, she has a keen understanding of the power of words and effective communication. During her time at Princeton. University where she majored in Comparative Literature, Susanna showcased her leadership skills as the Coach of the Princeton Riding Team.

In addition to her impressive career, Susanna is a Reiki Master and an equine communicator. She leverages her unique skills to host Equine Assisted Learning workshops for both groups and individuals. Offering group and one-on-one coaching as well as online courses, Susanna is dedicated to empowering others through her holistic approach. Living on a farm near Lexington, KY where she runs a sporthorse retirement haven, Susanna seamlessly integrates her professional expertise with her personal commitment to the well-being of horses. Her life’s work reflects a deep passion for the horse world, sustainability, and a commitment to making a positive impact in the corporate, nonprofit, and civic spheres.

  • 9:15 am Introductions and goals -Leadership defined, leadership challenges
  • 10:15am break
  • 10:30am First session: Self-leadership-Interaction with ponies
  • Noon lunch- group discussion, debrief
  • 1pm Second session: Follow the leader- Interaction with ponies, debrief
  • 2:30pm -2:45 break

  • 6:30: Dinner, movie, lecture or game
